In 2013, Paul Maenz, the administrator of Peter Roehr’s estate, asked Saâdane Afif to curate a show of Roehr’s work. In answer to his request, Afif donned the robes of the curator and set about conceiving and constructing the scenario for the exhibition Sept notes sur le travail de Peter Roehr (Seven notes on the work of Peter Roehr).

Afif started by selecting the works by Peter Roehr that he wanted to show. But then, instead of the usual discursive descriptions that tend to accompany the presentation of artwork, Afif wrote a poem for each of the pieces he had selected. He then asked composer Augustin Maurs to set his poems to music. For the night of the opening, Afif organised a performance that took the form of a sung lecture, during which the lyrical singer Katharina Schrade, accompanied on the piano by Augustin Maurs, performed the poem-descriptions with the works they refer to shown in a slide show. A libretto of the event was made available to the public.

In the rooms of the gallery, the works by Peter Roehr were hung alongside their respective label and poem; a number allowed visitors to navigate using the audio guide composed of recordings of Katharina Schrade’s performance.

This disc contains the recordings of the eight songs used for the audio guide in 2013. It is released on the occasion of the exhibition Peter Roehr “Field Pulsations” organised by Paul Maenz at Galerie Mehdi Chouakri (Wilhelm Hallen) to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the artist’s birthday (September 8 – October 26, 2024).
