Designed as a commission for the artist’s archive Manifesta 4, which was held in Frankfurt in 2002, Mathieu Mercier realised a multifunctional structure. With its proportion (74.5 x 36 x 27 cm) it can be used as a shelf system or the foot of a table when it is positioned lying flat. Beyond this its purpose was extended as a plinth or a document holder in private or office settings. Needless to say, the work’s sculptural qualities are very obvious as well.
