The edition by French artist Claude Closky, which was created in 2007 in collaboration with Mehdi Chouakri, shows bank or credit cards in different colours, each of which is marked with the words “Silver”, “Gold” or “Black Card”. With their printed text and colour the cards stand for a certain economic and cultural status. They are socio-culturally loaded status symbols and furthermore the edition becomes a certain form of art to go which can be carried around wherever you go. The actual function is taken away from the object, so that only a placeholder takes its place. Invalidity of the printed data is emphasised; the value they claim to convey is negated. Claude Closky’s works arise from the world of language and its formalities and thus become textual invitations that always address the viewer directly.
